Heading from Krabi to Koh Lipe is one of the most popular island-to-island journeys in southern Thailand. With both destinations offering stunning beaches and world-class diving, many travelers want to combine them in the same trip. Fortunately, getting from Krabi to Koh Lipe is relatively straightforward — especially during the high season. In this guide, we’ll cover the most convenient ways to travel, including direct ferries, transfer options, and seasonal tips to help you plan your journey with ease.
By plane
While Krabi has its own airport (KBV), there are no direct flights to Koh Lipe, as the island doesn’t have an airport. Flying is generally not the most practical option from Krabi to Koh Lipe, since both are already located in southern Thailand and well connected by land and sea.
That said, some travelers choose to fly from Krabi to Hat Yai Airport (HDY) and then continue by minivan to Pak Bara Pier, followed by a ferry to Koh Lipe. However, this adds unnecessary travel time and airport transfers.
A more straightforward and scenic route is to travel entirely by land and ferry. Joint tickets are available from Krabi to Koh Lipe, combining minivan transfers to Pak Bara Pier with a speedboat to the island, making the journey smooth and hassle-free.
By ferry & bus
Traveling from Krabi to Koh Lipe by ferry is one of the most straightforward and scenic ways to reach the island. While there’s no direct overnight ferry, several companies offer combined minivan and speedboat services that make the journey smooth and relatively quick.
The most common route involves a morning or early afternoon pickup from your hotel in Krabi, followed by a minivan transfer (around 4 hours) to Pak Bara Pier in Satun Province. From there, you’ll board a speedboat to Koh Lipe, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on sea conditions.
The total travel time is typically between 6 to 8 hours, and joint tickets covering all transfers are widely available from travel agencies and ferry operators in Krabi town, Ao Nang, or even the airport.
This ferry route is available year-round, but operates with greater frequency during the high season (November to April), so booking in advance is recommended—especially during peak travel months.
As ferry bookings aren’t available online, travelers must secure tickets through local travel agencies or directly at the port.
In summary, while Krabi offers various transit options to Koh Lipe, the journey typically involves a combination of land and sea transfers rather than direct overnight ferries. Whether you opt for a comfortable minivan and speedboat connection or plan your travel around available ferry services, Koh Lipe’s stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life make every step of the trip worthwhile—promising an unforgettable island escape in the heart of southern Thailand’s coastal paradise.
